The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for an Electrical Distribution Designer to fill a permanent full-time position. The Electrical Distribution Designer reports to the Electrical Distribution Supervisor of the Electric Light & Power section. Work includes the design and maintenance of distribution, transmission, and street lighting facilities.

Key duties include:

Prepare designs and estimates related to new construction and system modifications to the City’s electrical distribution system

Provide support in general office duties related to design including copying and distribution of drawings, entering estimates on the computer, ordering of materials, and field checking.

Draft projects using Auto Cad, PLS-CADD, ArcGIS & ESRI software.

Coordinate projects and provide excellent customer service.

Design customer services and system projects from customer contact, design, drawing, estimating, issuing, updating records and analysing job costs.

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

Relevant Technology disciplines with demonstration of applicable experience or

Tradesperson with certification in related field and or demonstration of applicable experience or

Grade 12 with experience equivalent to diploma may be considered.

Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.

Experience in electric power system design, operation and maintenance is preferred.

Understanding of surveying and land administration practices is beneficial.

Familiarity with Intergraph Geo Media, ArcGIS & ESRI, PLS-CADD, Auto Cad or equivalent CAD software is preferred.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and database software.

Good written and verbal communications skills are very important

Some familiarity with project management processes would be beneficial.

Electrical Distribution Designer Ladder

Level 1 – Junior – Minimum Requirements

Drafting, Surveying, Design or Engineering Diploma

Grade 12 with experience equivalent to diploma may be considered.

Driver’s License

Less than one years' experience

Level 2 – Intermediate – Minimum Requirements

Drafting, Surveying, Design or Engineering Diploma

Grade 12 with experience equivalent to diploma may be considered.

Driver’s License

Two years’ experience (May be 0 years with a Diploma)

Level 3 – Senior – Minimum Requirements

Drafting, Surveying, Design or Engineering Diploma

Grade 12 with experience equivalent to diploma may be considered.

Driver’s License

Four years’ experience (May be 2 years with a Diploma)

Remuneration:

Level 1 $ 39.82 to $41.80 per hour

Level 2 $ 48.93 to $51.34 per hour

Level 3 $ 56.50 to $59.32 per hour

* The education and experience of the successful candidate will determine placement on the development ladder for this position.

Hours of Work:

80 hours biweekly;
Monday to Friday, some field assignments with line crews may be required at times; including some evenings and weekend when needed.
