The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill two (2) temporary 14-week summer student positions for an Electric Utility Technologist
. The Electric Utility Technologist will report to the Electrical Distribution Supervisor of the Electric Utility section. Work includes supporting the design and maintenance of distribution, transmission, and street lighting facilities. This is a temporary student position with key duties including:
Support designers on projects related to new construction and system modifications to the City’s electrical distribution systemProvide support in technical office duties related to design, including copying and distribution of drawings, entering estimates on the computer, ordering of materials, and field checking.Support the Drafting of projects using Auto Cad and ESRI software.Support the audit and collection of information about Utility projects including survey, Asbuilds, project close out and material management.As our preferred candidate, you will have:
Must be registered in Drafting, Surveying, Design or Engineering Diploma or Degree program with preference given to those who have completed the first year of the program. Other programs may be considered.Must be a creative individual with a keen eye for detail. Must have strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Strong computer skills a must with a basic understanding of CAD software tools, ESRI platforms an assetField construction experience within Electrical, Utility, or a Municipality an asset.Strong understanding of Engineering principles and guidelines.Ability to work effectively on a variety of projects simultaneously.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must for this position.A self-motivated team player with the initiative and willingness to learn.Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license is required.Affiliation:

Remuneration:
$26.80 per hour
Hours of Work:
Up to 80 hours biweekly, as scheduled.

This is a Summer Student position with an anticipated term of 14 weeks.
