Job Summary

This is a key opening within our EIC estimating team for an experienced and driven Electrical Estimator. This role has direct influence on EEG’s success in securing and delivering industrial projects across the Oil & Gas sector. Reporting to the Vice President, EIC Services & AIC, the successful candidate will produce accurate, well-organized, and competitive cost estimates and proposals covering electrical and instrumentation scopes, ranging from small RFQs through to large-scale industrial projects.

This is a full-time, office-based position. The primary location is our Red Deer, Alberta office, with candidates in Edmonton or Calgary also considered.

Key Responsibilities Estimating & Proposals
  • Prepare comprehensive, accurate, and timely electrical estimates for RFQs across all project sizes, from small maintenance work to large-scale industrial installations.
  • Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and scope documents to develop detailed material and labour cost estimates.
  • Perform and provide clear, detailed quantity take-offs for electrical and instrumentation scopes.
  • Identify and input all material take-off data into Accubid / Trimble estimating software and maintain up-to-date unit pricing libraries and databases.
  • Prepare Full Cost Models (FCM) for management review and approval prior to proposal submission.
  • Develop and deliver Project Execution Plans (PEP) as required, outlining project approach, methodology, resource planning, and execution strategy.
  • Assemble and submit polished, professional RFQ proposal documents within client-driven deadlines.
  • Understand construction work sequences and accurately assess cost impacts when sequences are changed or disrupted.
Subcontracts, Suppliers & Client Engagement
  • Request, secure, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure alignment with contract scope and requirements.
  • Negotiate subcontractor pricing and terms in support of competitive and profitable proposals.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with EIC-valued material suppliers and equipment vendors.
  • Attend pre-tender site walkthroughs and site visits as required; meet with potential and existing clients to discuss scope options and proposed service approaches.
  • Participate in and lead internal proposal review meetings in preparation for RFQ submission deadlines.
Budgeting, Scheduling & Team Coordination
  • Compile preliminary project budgets and schedules based on estimate outputs and project timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with field personnel to address estimate-related questions during project handoff, maintaining thorough and well-organized estimate documentation.
  • Maintain cross-trade awareness, including a firm understanding of how other craft disciplines impact electrical scope, productivity, and overall cost.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Journeyman Electrician Certificate (Alberta).
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial sector experience, with a demonstrated background in electrical estimating in Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial project environments.
  • Proficiency with Accubid / Trimble estimating software and solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of construction work sequencing and its direct impact on cost and productivity.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Preferred / Considered an Asset
  • Experience estimating Instrumentation scopes is a significant asset and strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu for drawing markup and quantity take-off.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project for project scheduling.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), hazardous area classification standards, and applicable Alberta regulatory standards including ABSA and CSA requirements.
  • Post-secondary education in construction management, project management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Prior experience working in a collaborative estimating model alongside Project Managers.
