Peace Officer (CPO1) - Permanent / Full-Time
Red Deer County is seeking an experienced, community-minded Peace Officer (CPO1) to join our dedicated Protective Services team. As a Peace Officer with Red Deer County, you’ll be part of a supportive, professional team committed to preserving the safety, integrity, and enjoyment of our roads, rural communities, and countryside. What You’ll Do- Enforce a wide range of Provincial Statutes, including the Traffic Safety Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, and more.
- Enforce Red Deer County Bylaws, including Road Protection, Traffic Control, and Public Events.
- Collaborate closely with law enforcement partners such as the RCMP and other municipal Peace Officers.
- Provide public education, promote crime prevention, and participate in community engagement initiatives.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and County departments as a knowledgeable resource on bylaws and provincial legislation.
- Represent the County professionally through positive relationships, sound judgement, and strong communication.
- Minimum of three (3) years related law enforcement experience (equivalent mix of education and experience may be considered).
- Community Peace Officer Level 1 certification.
- Successful completion of the PARE or equivalent physical testing.
- Radar Operations certification is considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professionalism, integrity, and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent organization, judgement, diplomacy, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Acceptable Criminal Record Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- EVO (Emergency Vehicle Operation) certification is an asset.
- Motor Transport Weights & Measures training is an asset.
- Experience in municipal government or municipal enforcement settings is an asset.
