The Opportunity
The Police Communications Operators are primarily the first point of contact for all incoming telephone calls (non‑emergency and administrative) into the RCMP detachment from the public, Municipal Enforcement Officers, and other third‑party clients. The position utilizes and is responsible for maintaining all relevant police databases, computer‑related software, and communication devices. The purpose of this role is to triage all requests for service to determine the appropriate follow‑up or action required and plays a critical role in Municipal Enforcement Officer safety.
TopKey Responsibilities
- Expertise in Police and Enforcement Databases – strong proficiency with systems such as CIIDS, CPIC, and PROS, including creating, maintaining, and auditing records; running and interpreting queries; relaying critical safety information to officers.
- High‑Level Decision Making in Call Triage – evaluate incoming service requests, prioritize calls based on protocols and risk, and make sound, quick decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Clear and Accurate Communication (Radio, Phone, Written) – use Ten Codes and the Phonetic Alphabet; relay accurate information to RCMP and Municipal Enforcement Officers; provide professional customer service to the public and partner agencies.
- Strong Administrative Accuracy and Attention to Detail – prepare and review files, reports, and data entries; handle confidential information with precision; track statistics and maintain detailed records with high accuracy for compliance and audit standards.
- Ability to Support, Mentor, and Collaborate With Team Members – train and mentor employees on operator duties; support officers as a knowledgeable resource; assist with other operational roles when needed.
- Grade 12 education.
- Minimum 3 years’ of direct related experience in a Police communications environment (or 3 years’ related experience in emergency communications).
- National RCMP Telecommunications Operator Course would be an asset.
- Ability to pass RCMP Security Clearance prior to receiving an offer of employment.
- Must maintain RCMP Security Clearance throughout employment.
- Ability to type 50 wpm accurately.
- Must satisfactorily complete tested courses in RCMP PROS User Course, RCMP CPIC Maintenance Course, RCMP Records Information Manager Course, National Telecommunications Operator Course, and Police Communications Operator training.
- Must be able to work shift work, including evenings and weekends.
$35.69 to $37.79 per hour.
Hours of WorkHours of work as scheduled with no minimum guarantee. Shifts scheduled Monday to Sunday between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., including Statutory Holidays.
