Responsible for the administration, management, distribution and delivery of all court related documents for a large municipal police department. Performs queries and/or maintenance on the Criminal Justice Information Management (CJIM), Justice Online Information Network (JOIN) and Police Occurrence Records System (PROS), Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and Livescan. Acts as a Court Liaison Officer between Federal, Provincial and Municipal prosecution services, Court Services, Bail Office, Community Corrections, and other agencies.
Provides ongoing coaching on legal procedures and new legislation to police officers, support staff and the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal File Management & Court Preparation – Review, prepare, and maintain accurate court briefs, documentation, and records to support successful prosecutions.
- Judicial Processes & Warrant Management – Apply for warrants and legal processes, justify grounds to judicial officials, and manage CPIC entries to ensure accuracy and prevent wrongful arrests.
- Court Liaison & Real‑Time Support – Act as the primary link between police, prosecutors, and court services; respond to and/or distribute inquiries and urgent in‑court requests.
- Legal Authority & Compliance – Swear informations as an affiant with integrity, ensuring lawful grounds and adherence to legal standards and accountability.
- Training & Legal Advisory – Provide ongoing training, guidance, and legal procedural support to officers, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Records, Financial & Administrative Oversight – Maintain court tracking systems, manage fines/bail funds, support audits, handle disclosures, and ensure timely communication of court updates.
- Grade 12.
- Two (2) years experience in a police or court setting to provide a thorough knowledge of police and court procedures. A good working knowledge of the Criminal Code, Provincial Statutes, Federal Acts, Municipal Bylaws and related court documents is required.
- Ability to type 40 wpm.
- Must be able to be appointed as a Community Peace Officer II.
- Pass stringent RCMP enhanced security clearance.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to learn and fluently use the RCMP PIRS and PROS systems; RCMP CPIC system, JOIN, LIVESCAN and the CJIM computer in performing maintenance transactions and queries. Knowledge and ability to learn Microsoft Office Suite and Windows required.
- Must possess above average communication skills, both written and oral.
