Housekeeping/Laundry/Janitor (Casual) – Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Housekeeping/Laundry/Janitor Aide in our 220-beds Long Term and 60-beds supportive living facility Extendicare Michener Hill, located in Red Deer, Alberta.

Reporting to the General services Supervisor, the Housekeeping/Laundry/Janitor staff maintains high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in assigned work areas following established policies and procedures. Ensure residents’ safety by following established policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receives assignments from Supervisor.
• Using specified cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing agents, and following specific procedures, work patterns, and routines, performs tasks such as;
  Vacuuming, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing/disinfecting floors, spot cleaning walls, windows and doors between washing, dusting, emptying waste baskets and rearranging furniture; removing waste, daily cleaning and disinfecting all resident areas; cleaning floors, fixtures, and furnishings in rooms, kitchen, closets; garbage collection, removing and recycling; may also include heavy cleaning duties such as deep cleaning. Processing all aspects of commercial laundry.
• Ensures privacy of residents during performance and daily duties.
• Adheres to established company policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, and safety.
• Participates in department meetings, attends in service, completes required education programs.
• Cooperates with other departments moving and storing supplies, furniture, and equipment.
• Successful candidate will also be trained in laundry and janitorial duties.
• Shift Work; must be available to work: days, evenings, and weekends.

• Is aware of environmentally safe work procedures and able to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and company policy.
• Knowledge in the areas of infection control, chemical use, cleaning procedures and operation of various cleaning machines.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Relevant experience in maintaining building standards of cleanliness with disinfecting of furniture, surfaces, and the environment as directed by Extendicare policy, Infection Prevention and Control best practices, and Public Health Directives within the standards of the Accommodation Standards
• Previous cleaning experience and use of various floor care machines is preferred.
• Has a solid understanding of the Health and Safety Act
• Excellence in attendance required
• Vulnerable police check required
