The Medical Detox Unit is one of the organization's flagship programs and is recognized as one of Canada's strongest community‑based detox programs. It provides medically supervised withdrawal management and stabilization services while helping clients transition into treatment, recovery programs, housing supports, and other long‑term services.
Purpose of the RoleThe Medical Detox Manager is expected to provide visible, hands‑on leadership within a highly dynamic environment. The organization is seeking someone who can continue strengthening operations, improve consistency and accountability, support staff confidence, and help guide the next phase of growth for the detox program. This is not simply an administrative position; it requires balancing clinical operations, staff leadership, crisis response, system coordination, and strategic planning.
The manager will work closely with physicians, nurses, case workers, hospitals, EMS, Recovery Alberta, Indigenous partners, treatment providers, and community organizations to ensure clients receive safe, coordinated care throughout their recovery journey.
Core Responsibilities – Program Leadership and OperationsThe manager oversees all day‑to‑day operations within the Medical Detox Unit. This includes maintaining safe and effective clinical services, ensuring compliance with provincial standards and funding requirements, and supporting high‑quality withdrawal management practices. Responsibilities include overseeing intake procedures, triage, client monitoring, medication coordination, stabilization services, discharge planning, and transitions into treatment or community supports.
The role also supports the effective use of Transitional Stabilization Beds and ensures that trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented, and culturally safe practices are consistently integrated into service delivery. The manager must be able to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, crises, and client escalations while maintaining operational stability.
Staff Leadership and DevelopmentA major focus of the position is leading and supporting multidisciplinary teams. The manager will supervise nursing staff, case workers, supervisors, and frontline employees. They are responsible for creating a workplace culture rooted in professionalism, accountability, collaboration, compassion, and psychological safety.
