Opportunity

We’re looking for a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) to join our dynamic Critical Care team supporting the Cardiac Cath Lab. This role is ideal for a passionate critical care nurse leader/educator who is committed to advancing clinical excellence, supporting staff development, and helping shape the future of cardiac and critical care services within our organization. In this role, you will lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational initiatives that support nursing practice within a fast‑paced, high‑acuity critical care environment.

Working closely with frontline staff, physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in building a strong culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement across the Cardiac Sciences portfolio. You will work collaboratively with leadership teams to identify learning needs related to patient outcomes, staff feedback, quality indicators, incident trends, organizational priorities, and best practice standards. The educator will also support initiatives focused on strengthening critical care culture, improving team communication, and enhancing clinical confidence in complex patient care situations.

This position requires a strong clinical leader who is adaptable, approachable, and passionate about supporting others in their professional development. The ability to foster positive working relationships and drive change in a collaborative manner will be essential to success in this role.

Description

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi‑disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff, including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence‑informed practice.

You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family‑centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification.
Additional

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3‑years recent experience (within the past 5 years) working in Adult Critical Care, Trauma Emergency or Cath Lab.
  • Critical Care Course or OPACA.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, hemodynamics and ECG monitoring.
  • Demonstrated teaching and facilitation skills in both small and large group settings and the ability to apply adult learning principles effectively.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills, experience in coaching and mentoring, and the ability to evaluate learning outcomes.
  • The role requires the ability to analyze evidence, develop educational materials, and support staff in the application of new clinical knowledge and procedural skills.
  • Effective time management, the ability to prioritize competing demands, and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, are required to support collaborative practice and effective education delivery.
  • Knowledge of best practice guidelines, the ability to retrieve and appraise evidence, and familiarity with practice‑support resources.
  • The position requires the physical ability to work within a procedural cardiac environment, including walking, standing, lifting, and transporting educational equipment as needed, and the ability to wear 15‑20 LBS of Lead for extended periods of time.
  • Quality improvement experience is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Adult education experience is an asset.
  • Recent experience in a Cath Lab within the past 1‑3 years.
  • 3‑5 years critical care nursing experience (e.g., Cath Lab, ICU, CVICU).
  • Leadership experience, including charge nurse experience.
  • Self‑directed.
  • Organization skills.
  • Competence with computer‑based education platforms and information technologies used to support learning is necessary.
