Licensed Practical Nurse - Operating Room Technician

In this position you will report to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Manager, but the successful candidate will obtain all clinical/hands on training at the Drumheller Health Centre. If you are interested in an opportunity to work in a fast-paced operating room at Drumheller Health Centre this is your opportunity. The Perioperative training line will provide you with the education at Mac Ewan University and the orientation hours to complete your certificate all while in a temporary line with benefits.

This training is fully funded, and the only requirement is a desire to expand your nursing knowledge by becoming an operating room technician. Drumheller Health Centre serves the community of Rural Southeast Central Alberta. Our Operating Room consists of 2 OR theatres that specialize in General Surgery and Gynecology. Our multidisciplinary team includes Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Perioperative Registered Nurses, and support staff.

As a Operating Room Technician in the operating room, you will be responsible for providing nursing care in the intraoperative phase. You will be responsible for both the scrub and circulating role. Strong communication and collaboration skills are important; problem-solving skills using critical thinking, time management and adaptability or imperative; leadership and conflict resolution skills are essential to this role.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
