Salary: $2,872.21 to $3,712.88 bi-weekly ($74,964 to $96,906 per year)

Responsibilities
  • Assess, support, and reassess kinship/foster care caregivers for children in the care of the Director.
  • Assess kin and significant relationships for children and youth.
  • Approve and license caregivers for fostering.
  • Orient and train caregivers.
  • Support placement of the child with the caregiver, including the development of the Support Plan.
  • Complete ongoing evaluation and support, re-assessments, and respond to concerns for approved caregiver homes.
  • Conduct Quality of Care assessments as required.
  • Provide access to a dispute resolution process.

For Practitioners carrying Kinship files, the role requires completing the Home Study Report (ASKC) for newly opened kinship care homes. This involves engaging in relationship building, addressing sensitive issues and past traumas, conducting interviews, performing assessment activities, collecting and reviewing supporting documentation, and mitigating concerns where applicable. Assessment ability and strong written skills are essential.

Role Requirements
  • Registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) if holding a Bachelor, Diploma, or Masters in Social Work, as required by the Health Professions Act.
  • Travel will be required; candidates must provide a current 5‑year commercial driver’s abstract and carry appropriate vehicle insurance.
  • Clear Intervention Record Check (IRC) plus Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC/VS) will be required.
  • Academic check will be completed.
  • Current supervisor and manager will be consulted as references.
Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

  • Bachelor of Social Work with 1 year of related experience.

Equivalency:

  • Master of Social Work (no experience required);
  • Related university degree (e.g., BA Child Studies, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation, BSc Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Bachelor of Indigenous Studies) with 2 years related experience;
  • Related diploma (e.g., Addictions/Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Criminal Justice) with 3 years related experience;
  • Related certificate with 4 years related experience.
Assets
  • 1 year of related experience as a child intervention services worker.
  • Preference for candidates who are Delegated.
  • Knowledge of community resources and Indigenous culture is essential.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience conducting assessments, case management, and planning in a child intervention setting.
  • Experience delivering foster care, kinship care, permanency support, or family preservation/intervention services is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong critical thinking skills.
