The Position

As a Parent Consultant, you will provide parent education and assist in transforming relationships between parents and their children. Supporting families in the Red Deer area, a Parent Consultant will gain experience in working with families with the focus on strengthening the parent-child bond.

With support and supervision of a Registered Psychologist, a Parent Consultant will learn ways of integrating a developmental insight-oriented approach with families that are involved in Ministry of Human Services.

Schedule

One (1) permanent full-time position that will work 40 hours per week:

  • Position will be required to work flexible hours, such as evenings and weekends.
In Your Role You Will
  • Provide flexible and responsive support to address children, youth, family or caregiver needs, while accommodating and respecting cultural, social and religious heritage.
  • Oversee and manage service plan goals and objectives.
  • Provide care through individual program plans while respecting choices, decisions and needs of families.
  • Establish trust with families to assist them toward development of interpersonal communication skills, daily livings skills, and other areas of interest.
  • Collaborate and/work as team with community systems (i.e., schools), specialized service providers, volunteers and extended family members.
  • Conduct family visits in families homes; be available for evening, weekend visits and standby as required.
  • Prepare and submit reports as per specifications and deadlines.
  • Maintain a caseload of 8 families or 120 hours of service;
  • Advocate minimizing risks and promote opportunities to maximize and/or enhance community, family and individual support networks for individuals.
  • Adhere to ethical/professional standards, perform all program activities in accordance with Taproot policies and procedures, program specific policies, Children and Family policies, as well as accreditation and core standards.
  • Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
  • Degree level in Psychology, Child and Youth Care or Social Work is preferred
  • Minimum three years experience working with families.
  • Clear criminal record check and Intervention check.
  • First Aid/CPR certificate and Suicide Intervention training.
  • Class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle and proof of appropriate insurance.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and in a team
  • Knowledge of child development and attachment safe discipline.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with support networks, outside agencies and community resources
  • Good writing skills
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture is an asset
