The Student Care Coordinator provides support and stewardship for students experiencing complex barriers during their polytechnic journey. The incumbent plays an integral role in supporting the success and retention of RDP students by advocating for Creating Actionable & Responsible Early Supports ( CARES ) using principles of therapeutic and restorative justice, case management, crisis response, holistic/wrap-around supports and trauma-informed care, while navigating multifaceted services and processes.

This position has three focus areas: supporting students in complex situations and coordination of internal and external resources; management of non-academic conduct issues; and acts as point of contact for sexual and gender-based violence disclosures and reports.

This role is responsible for coordinating and managing interventions for students at risk, facilitating conflict resolution and collaborating with campus partners to ensure students receive the appropriate support services. This position ensures that students understand their rights and responsibilities to help them navigate through the conduct support processes.

They will build resources and processes around these areas while also providing education and support to the campus community. They will focus on developing and strengthening relationships and collaborations with community agencies and services to enhance seamless referrals and transitions for students.

• Maintain caseload of students with a wide variety of, and often intersecting, barriers, such as food and housing precarity, stigma and discrimination, functional and behavioural impairments, and safety concerns.
• Provide coordinated institutional response for students with complex support needs by liaising with other Polytechnic departments and integrating overall wrap-around approach to student support.
• Point of contact for faculty and staff to bring issues or concerns regarding student mental health, well-being or behaviour.
• Provide leadership and guidance in assessing, analyzing and responding to students of concern and when there is a potential risk to students, staff, faculty or the institution.
• Engage, increase, and coordinate student’s external supports, including transitions to and from RDP and ensuring appropriate follow up.

• Manage, monitor, and support the progress of non-academic misconduct situations through reporting, assessment, investigation/facilitated resolution, decision-making and concluding phases.
• Support students through the complaint/reporting outcomes including sanctions, therapeutic justice, and restorative justice processes.
• Develop and oversee Behaviour Intervention Plans, Success Plans and other agreements with students to assist them in outlining expectations and goals

• Working with the Dean of Students, monitor and support the progress of sexual and gender-based violence cases through reporting, assessment, investigation/facilitated resolution, decision-making and concluding phases.
• Provide procedural support to investigators and facilitators.

• Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, and other resource materials to: provide education on identifying and responding to concerning or disruptive student behaviour, crisis intervention, student conduct expectations, interpersonal conflict, and relevant RDP policy.
• Participate on multi-disciplinary School Student Support team.
• Provide education on identifying and responding to students of concern, disruptive student behaviour, crisis intervention, student conduct expectations, and relevant institutional policy, including its principles and protocols, to help foster a positive and respectful academic environment.

• Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent in Social Work.
• Must have current registration with Alberta College of Social Workers or another professional regulatory body.
• A Vulnerable Sector check is required.

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Social Work or Psychology.
• 3-5 years case management experience.
• Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective with strong understanding and knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
• Solid understanding of issues of procedural fairness and due process. Experience with policy interpretation.
• Experience in discerning boundaries of their practice and collaborating with other areas and departments while respecting appropriate confidentiality constraints.
