Short Haul Driver – Job Overview

Responsible for safe, efficient, and timely transportation of metal materials between collection sites, recycling facilities, and client locations. The role is based out of Red Deer, AB.

Shift and Schedule

Monday to Friday 6am to 3pm with rotating Saturdays as required.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all local, provincial, and federal traffic laws and regulations.
  • Skillfully handle and maneuver different types of vehicles and equipment during loading, transit, and unloading.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines established by SECURE and customer sites.
  • Accurately position and secure waste bins, recording and tracking them using the provided system.
  • Conduct inspections of transported materials to verify documentation and compliance.
  • Maintain a regular weekday schedule and be available for additional hours as needed.
  • Communicate with the dispatch team to optimize routes, meet customer requirements, and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Support operational tasks at the recycling facility, including equipment maintenance and organization.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain high safety standards and follow company protocols.
Qualifications
  • Valid Class 1 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum five (5) years driving experience in the transportation industry.
  • Solid knowledge of Hours of Service, Load Securement, and Driving Regulations.
  • Experience operating flatbeds, tankers, and heavy‑duty trucks; lowbed and self‑loader experience are assets.
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication, time‑management, and organizational skills.
  • Physical fitness to perform loading, unloading, and inspections.
  • Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and GPS navigation systems.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety and company protocols.
  • Basic computer skills for electronic logs and documentation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing road conditions and weather.
  • Knowledge of waste management and recycling practices is a plus.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
