JOB SUMMARYThis is a part-time position working 20 hours per week. The Library Associate III plans, develops, and delivers engaging children’s programs that support early learning, developmental skills, and literacy, including crafts and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities.
This position provides one-on-one assistance to library customers, participates in community outreach events, and works with volunteers to support library programs and services. Above all, the Library Associate III helps create a welcoming environment where every customer feels valued and receives a warm welcome.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITESAn individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Give excellent customer service by welcoming customers with a sincere greeting.
- Plan, develop, and deliver children’s programs, including story times, themed activities, and seasonal events.
- Foster early literacy skills using songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and interactive storytelling.
- Collaborate with schools, community groups, and organizations to promote library programs and services.
- Help customers one on one as needed, such as finding materials, using computers and devices, and learning about library services and programs.
- Plan a variety of programs that follow our programming guidelines and submit them for approval.
- Take part in community outreach and engagement programs as assigned.
- Transport, set up, and down outreach displays.
- Coordinate volunteers and assign their duties. Provide the training they need.
- Follow all legal and policy rules about customer privacy and the care of customer records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTSAn individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to work Saturdays.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to work well with people from all backgrounds.
- Excellent written and spoken communication, teamwork, and people skills.
- Ability to follow directions and finish tasks on time.
- Valid Texas driver’s license, current insurance, and a clean driving record.
- Advanced skills with app-based devices, computers, printers, Microsoft Office, and other office equipment.
- Experience working with young children (ages 2 to
5), and planning and leading story times and early childhood programs. - English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
- Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.
- Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
