The Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of day‑to‑day operations on high‑performance data center construction projects. Working under direct supervision, the role performs routine tasks focused on gathering, organizing, and distributing technical and logistical information to ensure seamless delivery of mission‑critical infrastructure.

Primary Duties
  • Review project contract documents, specifications, and drawings, with emphasis on MEP systems, redundancy requirements, and commissioning protocols.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with trade partners, design teams, and client stakeholders to address labor, scheduling, and system integration concerns; take minutes as required.
  • Provide field support to construction superintendents and project managers to ensure compliance with data center‑specific standards.
  • Assist in developing scopes of work for subcontractors, particularly those handling electrical, mechanical, and low‑voltage systems.
  • Support constructability reviews with a focus on high‑density cooling, power distribution, and fire suppression systems.
  • Attend preconstruction meetings with subcontractors prior to each phase of work, including white‑space buildouts and equipment installations.
  • Assist with project close‑out documentation, including commissioning reports, asset tagging, and turnover packages.
  • Coordinate punch list items and procedures with a focus on critical path systems and client readiness.
  • Assist in estimating and bidding processes, tracking costs for MEP trades and long‑lead equipment to maintain budget alignment.
  • Support development and maintenance of the site logistics plan, including laydown areas for generators, chillers, and switch gear.
  • Assist with change management by soliciting, reviewing, and organizing quotations for IOCCs and change orders related to infrastructure upgrades.
  • Review and distribute RFIs and submittals under supervision, with attention to lead times and system compatibility.
  • Document technical, financial, and personnel aspects of the project, including updates to commissioning schedules and equipment delivery logs.
  • Assist in managing the permit process for electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems.
  • Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles in a high‑performance, safety‑first environment.

Safety Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Refuse unsafe work and adhere to Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices specific to data center environments.
  • Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
  • Wear and maintain personal PPE appropriate for high‑voltage and confined space work zones.
  • Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations and participate in workplace inspections.
  • Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care and OSHA standards.
  • Participate in assigned training, including lockout/tagout, arc flash awareness, and confined space entry.
  • Provide suggestions to improve safety and contribute to pre‑start and safety meetings.
  • Assist with administration of the site safety program and ensure trade partner compliance with Yates site‑specific requirements and applicable codes.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant education, training, or work experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Knowledge of construction and engineering principles, especially in mission‑critical environments.
  • Understanding of business principles sufficient to project and monitor expenses.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel); familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, and scheduling tools preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, installation manuals, and engineering drawings related to MEP and low‑voltage systems.
  • Effective time management and prioritization in fast‑paced environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable team player with a proactive mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and trade partners.
Physical Demands/Essential Job Functions

This role may involve walking, standing, operating tools/equipment, and lifting items up to 25 lbs. Tasks may also be carried out in varying weather conditions and environments.
