About the Role

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) plays a critical role in providing compassionate and attentive care to patients during nighttime hours. This position ensures the safety, comfort, and well‑being of patients by assisting with daily living activities and monitoring their health status throughout the night. The CNA collaborates closely with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to support patient care plans and respond promptly to any changes in patient conditions.

This role requires vigilance, empathy, and strong communication skills to effectively address patient needs and provide emotional support during vulnerable times. Ultimately, the CNA contributes to maintaining a healing environment that promotes patient dignity and recovery during overnight hours.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current and valid Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification as required by the state.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of patient care and safety protocols.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Physical ability to perform patient care tasks including lifting and moving patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working as a CNA in a hospital or long‑term care facility, preferably during night shifts.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding during the night shift.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, report any changes in patient condition to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Ensure patient safety by regularly checking on patients, preventing falls, and maintaining a clean and organized environment.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, addressing their concerns and needs with compassion.
  • Collaborate with nurses and other healthcare team members to implement care plans and assist with medical procedures as directed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities and observations in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation and transfer of patients for diagnostic tests or treatments during the night shift.

The required skills such as patient care techniques, vital sign monitoring, and safety awareness are essential for delivering high-quality care and ensuring patient well‑being during overnight hours. Effective communication skills enable the CNA to interact compassionately with patients and collaborate efficiently with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are necessary to assist patients with mobility and personal care tasks safely.

Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records streamline documentation and improve accuracy in patient information management. Additionally, CPR and First Aid skills prepare the CNA to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, enhancing overall patient safety.
