Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic
Quantity Surveyor
to contribute to the
Net Zero Teesside
(NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Work Location:

Project based role complying with the Company’s flexible working
policies – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.

Experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs and income within their area of responsibility. They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Preferably, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, CICES or CIOB or working to achieve in the near future.

Experience of managing a small team of commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified is desirable. They will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Dimensions
  • Financial:
    Manages all costs and income within their area of responsibility
  • Organisational:
    Direct reports could include Apprentice QS, Trainee QS, Graduate or Assistant QSs
Interfaces
  • Internal:
    Commercial and wider Project Team
  • External:
    Supply Chain, Customers, Stakeholders, Professional and Industry Bodies
Accountabilities Governance
  • Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance
    requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities
Commercial Management and Administration
  • Requests information and systematically checks data
  • Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
  • Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
  • Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location
  • Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
  • Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately
  • Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation and report to senior project staff
Customer/Change Management
  • Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management
  • Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
  • Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
  • Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
Procurement
  • Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
  • Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
Development, Recruitment and Retention
  • Supports the recruitment, supervision and development of team members
Essentials

The following qualifications or their equivalent are essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
  • CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
