About the Role

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting an experienced SEN & SEMH Academic Support Tutor to provide 1:1 outreach tuition and wellbeing support to students aged 11-16 (KS3‑KS4) across Redcar.

This role supports learners with SEN, SEMH, ADHD, anxiety, behavioural needs, school avoidance, those at risk of exclusion and those who have been PEX. You will combine academic tuition with pastoral and emotional wellbeing support, helping students rebuild confidence, improve engagement, and boost attainment.

Tuition is delivered in community settings including homes, libraries, learning hubs, and alternative provisions.

This is an ideal role for experienced SEN teachers, outreach tutors, behaviour mentors, learning mentors, or pastoral support specialists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver personalised 1:1 tuition to secondary‑aged students (11-16)
  • Support learners with SEN, SEMH, behavioural needs, and emotional wellbeing challenges
  • Plan and differentiate lessons aligned to the UK curriculum (KS3 & KS4)
  • Implement trauma‑informed and relationship‑based approaches
  • Support confidence building, emotional regulation, and engagement
  • Track academic progress and wellbeing outcomes
  • Liaise with families, schools, SEND teams, and local authorities
Candidate Requirements Essential
  • Experience working with SEN / SEMH / SEND learners
  • Background in secondary education (KS3 or KS4)
  • Experience supporting behaviour, anxiety, ADHD, or excluded learners
  • Strong classroom management and de‑escalation skills
  • Ability to work independently in outreach or alternative provision settings
  • Excellent communication and report‑writing skills
Desirable
  • QTS / PGCE / QTLS or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience in alternative provision or PRU settings
  • Background as a Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor, Pastoral Lead, or Outreach Tutor
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes
