About The Role

In partnership with bp (British Petroleum), we were selected to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This is a key driver behind making Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are seeking a dynamic Mechanical Design Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing- Manage design solutions for the NZT project Mechanical Building Services Area.
- Ensure integration, technical assurance, compliance, health, safety and sustainability of design and engineering to deliver defect‑free handover for operational service, on programme and budget.
- Manage Mechanical Building Services design to provide effective design solutions for NZT.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, water services, gas systems, including load calculations, modelling and system sizing.
- Proficient with relevant codes, standards and regulations.
- Attend site meetings, workshops and surveys.
- Ensure effective utilisation and cost recovery of staff in line with resource requirements.
- Manage direct reports: evaluate competency and capability (SQEP), training requirements including CPD events, and support development of trainees and graduates.
- Develop and implement design proposals that meet customer requirements and budget constraints; present proposals to customers and stakeholders.
- Chair and manage design and other technical review workshops and meetings with stakeholders.
- Create and review requisition specifications for equipment.
- Develop and review strategies and guidance on buildability, operability, maintainability, de‑constructability for operations teams.
- Review and approve manufacturing documentation.
- Proven senior‑level experience delivering engineering services and implementing design strategies.
- Minimum ten years’ experience in a relevant role.
- Leadership skills to deliver design services timely with a customer‑specific focus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to form effective relationships under time pressure.
- Experience leading or coaching team members is desirable.
- Numeracy and report‑writing skills required.
- Relevant professional membership (e.g., IET) and a valid CSCS card.
- Excellent IT skills;
Microsoft Office essential; other relevant business stream skills desirable. - Detailed knowledge of codes of practice and regulatory material applicable to nuclear stations.
- Chartership or working toward chartership.
