Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Engineer Surveying Technician to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Role purposeTo assist the Engineering Surveying Team in supporting the survey requirements throughout the construction process. This role will involve different survey processes as required to support the site teams.
What you’ll be doing- Assist in mentoring and training less experienced surveyors and create and cascade daily site briefings;
- Assist in planning and installing control points;
- Assist in producing as-built drawings from survey data using survey-specific software;
- Assist in securely storing and maintaining survey equipment and consumables;
- Carry out delegated survey activities as part of a team or with minimal supervision;
- Carry out independent survey checks at key construction stages;
- Collect survey field data, process it, and issue deliverables in agreed formats;
- Identify hazards, raise observation cards, and ensure safe working practices for self and team;
- Perform routine checks and validations on survey equipment in line with company standards;
- Perform supplementary site POWRs for own working activities;
- Produce and maintain accurate site records;
- Provide site engineers with information derived from design deliverables (schedules, digital models, drawings).
The following experience/qualifications are essential:
- Effective communication and teamwork skills;
- Familiarity with the latest survey equipment, GNSS networks, and emerging technologies;
- Full UK manual driving licence;
- Previous experience and knowledge in surveying activities (e.g., control, monitoring, topographical surveys, setting out);
- Proficient in IT applications;
- Strong focus on Health & Safety;
- Valid CSCS card.
The following experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential:
- CAA-recognised drone operator qualifications (GVC and/or A2 CofC);
- Experience surveying on civil engineering projects;
- Experience with survey-specific software (e.g., 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, Site Scan);
- First Aid at Work qualification;
- Membership of a relevant professional body and/or professional qualification, ideally RICS or CICES;
- Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
