About The Role
Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives? Balfour Beatty has created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years, redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project. As a result, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty was selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage, which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Site Engineer (Nights) to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland. The Site Engineer will support the delivery of civil engineering and construction works across the project. The role is focused on traditional site engineering control, including setting out, survey checks, technical coordination, quality records, progress reporting, material measures and day‑to‑day support to the delivery team.
The scope may include earthworks, drainage, underground services, ducting, formwork and reinforced concrete works, roads and pavements, mobilisation infrastructure, temporary works, logistics areas, plant and vehicle routes, traffic management interfaces, structures, foundations, retaining works, kerbing, fencing, utilities interfaces, building support works and general site infrastructure. The Site Engineer will support works from preparation through to completion, including setting out, permitting, inspection, quality evidence, as‑built records, material reconciliation and handover information.
The role is not limited to one discipline. The requirement is for a building or civil engineering Site Engineer who can read drawings, understand specifications, set out the works, support safe delivery, record progress and raise technical, quality or constructability issues early. The Site Engineer will work with supervisors, subcontractors, survey teams, temporary works, quality, planning, commercial and engineering teams to keep the works safe, accurate and properly recorded.
The role requires a good understanding of civil engineering construction and the judgement to raise clashes, missing information, level issues, permit constraints or buildability concerns before they affect safety, quality or progress.
