Your Role
  • Patient Assessment: Perform comprehensive assessments of patients’ oral health status, including examining the teeth, gums, and soft tissues, as well as evaluating oral hygiene practices and risk factors for dental diseases.
  • Dental Cleanings: Conduct professional dental cleanings (prophylaxis) to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from the teeth. Use specialized instruments and techniques to clean above and below the gumline and polish the teeth for a smooth finish.
  • Periodontal Therapy: Provide non-surgical periodontal therapy, including scaling and root planing, to treat gum disease and promote periodontal health. Monitor and document periodontal measurements to track the progress of treatment.
  • Dental Radiography: Take dental radiographs (X‑rays) as part of the diagnostic process, following established protocols and safety guidelines. Interpret radiographic images to identify dental caries, periodontal disease, and other oral conditions.
  • Oral Health

    Education:

    Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and interdental cleaning techniques. Provide personalized recommendations for oral care products and preventive measures to maintain optimal oral health.
  • Nutritional Counseling: Offer guidance on the relationship between diet and oral health, including the effects of nutrition on dental caries, periodontal disease, and overall well‑being. Encourage healthy eating habits that support oral health.
  • Tobacco Cessation Counseling: Assist patients in quitting tobacco use by providing information, resources, and support for smoking cessation. Educate patients about the harmful effects of tobacco on oral health and overall health.
  • Oral Cancer Screening: Conduct oral cancer screenings during routine dental examinations to detect signs of oral cancer or precancerous lesions. Refer patients for further evaluation and treatment if abnormalities are identified.
  • Sealant Application: Apply dental sealants to the occlusal surfaces of permanent molars to prevent dental caries. Evaluate the need for sealants based on individual risk factors and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Fluoride Therapy: Administer fluoride treatments to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay. Offer fluoride varnish applications or other fluoride products based on patients’ age, risk factors, and treatment needs.
  • Record‑Keeping: Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date patient records, including clinical notes, treatment plans, and radiographic findings. Document assessments, interventions, and patient education efforts in accordance with legal and professional standards.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with dentists and other members of the dental team to develop comprehensive treatment plans and coordinate care for patients. Communicate findings, recommendations, and referrals effectively to ensure continuity of care.
