Hours:
5.75 hrs/day, M-F 8:45 a.m.
- 2:30 p.m. (Grand Oaks Elementary School). 182 workdays (14 District paid holidays).
Paraprofessional III SDC – Severely Handicapped Special Education Environment. Under the direction of the Classroom Teacher, Principal or Designee, performs duties including classroom teacher assistance, instructional supports, and individual student assignments.
Responsibilities- Assists instructional personnel in assigned instructional areas.
- Tutors individual students and small groups with special needs to reinforce learning activities.
- Assists in shaping appropriate social behaviors and manages acting-out behavior using positive reinforcement and other techniques.
- Operates and assists students with instructional aids, computer-assisted instruction equipment, and software programs.
- Monitors and assists in remediation of specific learning problems and conditions.
- Assists with administering medication per medical instruction when applicable; performs routine first aid and requests assistance for non-routine injuries.
- Observes and monitors children with handicapping conditions and seeks assistance for distress when needed.
- Maintains an orderly, positive learning environment and assists with parent conferences and progress reporting.
- Provides skill-building activities for children with language and hearing disorders; shares observations with the teacher; maintains confidentiality.
- Assists with campus supervision and discipline as assigned; helps prepare materials and records; uses media equipment.
- Performs screen-testing when requested; follows district rules and participates in in-services, conferences, and staff meetings.
- Assists students with personal needs (e.g., personal hygiene, toileting, feeding) as necessary.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Must meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind.
- Knowledge:
English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation; child guidance for students with special needs; behavior management related to pupils; safe classroom and playground practices; basic instructional methods; classroom procedures; oral and written communication. - Ability:
Work with minimal supervision; perform routine clerical tasks; assist with instruction; follow directions; establish cooperative relationships; observe health and safety regulations.
Experience:
prior work with children in an organized setting, preferably as a Paraprofessional.
Education:
high school diploma (preferably with training in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology or related field).
