(Full-time) American Sign Language Instructor

Shasta College – Redding, CA
This full‑time instructor position teaches American Sign Language (ASL) in in‑person, online, and hybrid formats to our diverse student body. The role emphasizes equitable outcomes, inclusive instruction, and student success.

Start Date

Position expected to begin at the start of the Spring 2026 semester. Possible online teaching.

Salary and Benefits
  • Starting salary: $63,500.44 – $ per year (2025‑2026 Full‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule)
  • Salary range: $63,500.44 – $ per year (2024‑2025 Full‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule)
  • $2,000 annual doctorate differential
  • State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) participation

Primary Responsibilities
  • Teach ASL courses in accordance with official course outlines and district guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans, including online and hybrid components.
  • Distribute syllabi at the start of each course, detailing objectives, grading, and attendance policies.
  • Provide timely feedback and graded work, and assign final grades per district policy and California Education Code.
  • Serve as a resource for students, including tutoring referrals and supervision during off‑campus activities.
  • Maintain instructional materials and submit requisitions for textbooks and supplies.
  • Participate in office hours, professional development, and curriculum review processes.
  • Complete required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes reporting.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Schedule and communicate office hours.
  • Participate in district committees, governance, and program reviews.
  • Assist in hiring and selection processes when required.
  • Attend departmental and division meetings; evaluate programs per faculty collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintain records and comply with district policies on property, safety, and attendance reporting.
  • Recommend instructional supplies and equipment purchases.
  • Fulfill all obligations under the current collective bargaining agreement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills in a diverse learning environment.
  • Experienced in designing and delivering courses in multiple modalities (in‑person, online, hybrid).
  • Ability to support students with varied academic and vocational goals and diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in instructional technologies and pedagogical practices that enhance student learning.
  • Understanding of California community college mission and cultural diversity.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or associate degree with six years of professional experience) plus two years of professional experience; or a master’s degree (professional experience required).
  • Professional experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, including students with physical and learning disabilities.
