Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Community College District seeks a part‑time mathematics instructor to teach courses, contribute to continuous improvement of instruction, and advance the vision, mission, and values of Shasta College.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

Successful applicants must demonstrate:

  • Broad preparation and depth of knowledge in the discipline.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues and students.
  • Design and delivery of courses in in‑person, online, and hybrid modalities.
  • Recruitment and articulation activities with local institutions.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Maintenance of subject‑matter currency.
  • Assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Exploration of new technologies and teaching practices.
  • Sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to the California community college mission.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned classes/ laboratories and participate in scheduling.
  • Develop and implement instruction consistent with course outlines and district guidelines.
  • Maintain online course components for online/hybrid courses.
  • Develop and distribute syllabi within the first week of class.
  • Provide timely feedback and return graded work.
  • Assign final grades following district policy, California Education Code, and Title 5.
  • Respect student rights and submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related services; supervise off‑campus activities.
  • Provide academic assistance during office hours and participate in professional development.
  • Complete required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in evaluation, professional skill development, and record keeping.
  • Abide by district policies on property, safety, and absences.
  • Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Fulfill obligations under the collective bargaining agreement.
Additional Responsibilities (Optional)
  • Maintain office hour schedule and communicate it to students and staff.
  • Participate in participatory governance and advisory committees.
  • Contribute to curriculum review, program review, and annual planning.
  • Attend department and division meetings.
  • Assess learning outcomes and engage in associated processes.
  • Participate in professional development for improved pedagogy and student success.
Experience/Education

Education Required: Master’s in mathematics or applied mathematics, OR Bachelor’s in those fields and a Master’s in statistics, physics, or mathematics education, OR equivalent.

Experience

Required:

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

The state of California establishes minimum qualifications for academic positions. Advanced degree in the relevant subject is primary. Candidates not meeting the minimum education requirement may be considered if they demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities through education and experience.
