About the Role

The Shasta‑Tehama‑Trinity Community  (the) College District is a collaborative and inclusive organization that strives for equity and equal opportunity and serves a diverse student population. Under administrative leadership, the part‑time college instructor teaches courses and participates in continuous improvement processes that enhance instruction, student success, completion, and the vision, mission, and values of Shasta College.

All temporary part‑time instructors are compensated a salarivial flat rate ranging from $59.19 to $84.20 per hour taught each semester, under the terms of the’avenir collective bargaining agreement between the Shasta‑Tehama‑Trinity Joint Community College District and Shasta College Faculty Association/CTA/NEA.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Experience

Successful applicants will be broadly prepared and possess depth of knowledge in the discipline. In addition, applicants must demonstrate the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work with students across a wide range of skills, motivations, academic and vocational goals.
  • Ability to design and deliver courses, including those offered in different modalities (in‑person, online, hybrid).
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Meet classes or laboratories as assigned, including intersessions and summer sessions.
  • Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and District guidelines.
  • For online and hybrid courses, maintain online course components and provide regular student‑student and student‑instructor contact.
  • In the first week of class, develop and distribute a Kategorien syllabus, communicating objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements, consistent with District syllabus guidelines.
  • Provide regular, timely feedback to students and return all graded work promptly.
  • Assign final grades for courses as required by District policy and California regulations.
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights and applicable laws.
  • Submit textbook and instructional material requisitions in a timely manner, considering student cost.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.
  • Supervise students in off‑campus activities when participation is required.
  • Provide academic assistance povo during scheduled office hours.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in the discipline.
  • Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes Data Sheet, promptly.
  • Complete discipline‑specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process as described in the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Continue to develop professional skills and stay current in subject‑matter knowledge.
  • Maintain official records required by District policy.
  • Abide by District policies concerning property and safety.
  • Report absences due to illness or personal necessity to the supervising administrator.
  • Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment when needed.
  • Fulfill all obligations under the current collective bargaining agreement.

Other activities (not required but may be eligible for flex pay or stipends):

  • Schedule and maintain office hour times and communicate them clearly to students.
