Recreation Coordinator

Overview

Redding Recreation is looking for Summer Coordinators to plan and organize recreation programming for kids ages 5‑12, supervise part‑time recreation staff, and lead a summer of fun

• Plan and coordinate program activities; supervise program staff and/or volunteers; review applications for available positions; evaluate and make recommendations regarding program and staff to the Recreation Supervisor.
• Assist in the organization, implementation and supervision of special events, swim lessons, concessions, preschool programs, and age‑specific programming.
• Coordinate volunteer efforts, supervise registration, and communicate program development with the Recreation Supervisor.
• Interpret recreation division policy, goals and programs for neighborhood groups and organizations.
• Manage the on‑site operation of a City recreation facility, maintain staff schedules, provide training, and handle emergency situations in compliance with City policy.
• Design and produce program catalog and other promotional materials; maintain the division’s website.
• Assist residents in registering for recreational programs and provide backup support to front office operations.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• A teacher, educator, or substitute teacher desiring a more fun role than summer school.
• A college student studying recreation, child development, education, or community services.
• A retired professional seeking seasonal work.

• High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Business administration, marketing and communications coursework desirable.
• Equivalent of two years of relevant program area and/or supervisory experience.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license and the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
• Must possess valid First Aid and CPR certifications and same certifications required by employees supervised.
• Proficiency in Photoshop or equivalent software and HTML web design desirable for marketing coordinator positions.

• Final appointment is contingent upon passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check, a pre‑employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.
• An oral board interview will be administered.
• The City of Redding adheres to Cal/OSHA COVID‑19 requirements.
