Overview
Redding Air Service, Inc. is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Chief Pilot to lead our utility operations. We operate in mountainous terrain and provide a variety of aerial services including external load, patrol, wire construction, HEC, infrastructure support, firefighting and charter. This role is operational — active flying required, not just administrative oversight. We are seeking a strong leader looking for a balanced blend of flight and management responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Lead pilot standardization, training, and qualification program (Part 135 & 133)
- Provide oversight of flight operations, training and pilot development
- Qualify and act as check airman when required
- Assist in maintaining pilot training records
- Coordinate crew scheduling for all pilot assignments
- Interface with FAA as needed
- Act as PIC and regularly fly both 135 and 133 flights supporting mission critical work
- Mentor and develop pilots at all levels with a strong emphasis on safety, and professionalism
- Accountability – Keep flight operations compliant through oversight
- FAA Commercial Rotorcraft-Helicopter with Instrument (ATP preferred)
- 5,000+ total rotorcraft hours
- 2,000+ mountain / high DA flight hours
- Proficient External load / precision long-line
- HEC experience and qualification
- USFS Carded / Cardable
- Bell 407 Experience
- Bell Medium (205/212) Experience
- Strong working knowledge of Part 135, Part 133, SMS, ADM and CRM
- Proven leadership in real-world high-op tempo utility environments
- Microsoft Office, Fore Flight, and other software proficient
- High attention to detail
- Understands and promotes SMS
- Leads from the front — flies, mentors, holds standards and accountability
- Calm, precise execution in mountain weather and confined area environments
- Values safety and standardization above ego and shortcuts
- Understands and applies Just Culture
- High understanding of customer service in the utility sector
- Professional reputation, respected by peers and regulators
- Previous Chief Pilot / Check Airman / Lead Pilot / Training Captain experience strongly preferred
