Working under the direction of the Caltrans Maintenance Manager II, the Field Superintendent (CMAS) provides general supervision and oversight of maintenance supervisors, crews and activities within the assigned area of responsibility. The incumbent directs and coordinates District Field Maintenance and Special Crews, and ensures that all Department safety practices are in compliance with District, Department, State and federal policies.

Duties include:

• Assigns work, provides direction to, and maintains discipline among subordinate crew supervisors; assists with implementing work plans and schedules, meeting deadlines, addressing disciplinary issues timely.
• Develops estimates for regular and special maintenance and minor improvement work, extracts and evaluates data from various reports, and ensures maintenance activities and projects are within funding requirements.
• Identifies and submits plans for Major Maintenance and Day Labor projects.
• Maintains compliance with departmental policies among staff and ensures accurate records are input into the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS), including regular time worked, overtime, and equipment/material usage.

• Must have a valid Class C California Driver's License.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Eligibility considerations may include Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent exam results; applicants may need to be on the state examination list to be eligible.
• Special requirements include a valid/unrestricted Class C driver’s license. Desired: valid/unrestricted Class A or Class B CDL with P, H, and N endorsements and a qualified pesticide applicator certificate issued by Cal-EPA.
• Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If basing eligibility on education, submit unofficial transcripts/diplomas for verification.
