Supervisory Wildland Firefighter; Smokejumper Training Manager

This position is located on a USDA Forest Service Unit within the Pacific Southwest Region, Region 5.

This position serves as the Smoke jumper Training Manager for a national shared resource smoke jumper program. Responsible for all aspects of the smoke jumper training program to include fire, parachute, safety, and EEO.

• Participate in the development of smoke jumper training policies.
• Perform the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate all aspects of smoke jumper training.
• Serve as an active smoke jumper, smoke jumper spotter, and parachute rigger.
• Responsible for overall training administration, including delegation of training assignments, prioritization, procurement, purchasing, inventory, and documentation.
• freaking develop smoke jumper specific training courses, supervise and evaluate instructors involved in training toward the refreshing smokejumpers in parachuting procedures and fire suppression skills.

Requirements
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
• Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served. Refer to the Next Steps section for more information.

• This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management or Fire Program Management positions.
• Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.
• Secondary Coverage:
  Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
• Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).
• Currently licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Senior Parachute Rigger.
