American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level II Trauma Emergency Department, requiring CA RN licensure and 2+ years of high-acuity ER experience.
Details- Acute care Level II Trauma Emergency Department with 28 beds, 4 fast track beds, 2 trauma bays, and hallway beds
- High-volume unit seeing approximately 155 patients per day including trauma, stroke, pediatric, and psychiatric cases
- Patient ratio of 1 to 4
- Uses Cerner EMR and GE telemetry monitoring equipment
- Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
- Nurse aides (EMTs) support each shift, including a midshift EMT for tech duties
- 12-hour night shifts with varied start times between 4p-7p, scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance with self-scheduling by seniority
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as part of the permanent staff rotation
- On-call requirement of approximately one day per month, potentially 2 days depending on call team rotation
- No floating required
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist, intensivist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy support available
- Ventilator management required; no dedicated IV team
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS required; TNCC preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the ER specialty required
- Experience in a high-volume, high-acuity emergency department required
- Level II trauma experience or above preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Provide emergency care across a wide range of patient acuities including trauma, stroke, pediatric, and psychiatric cases
- Must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia test onsite on day one on a pass/fail basis
- Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
- Failure of the Dysrhythmia or sterile technique test on a second attempt may result in ineligibility with this health system for 6 months
- Navy scrub color required
- Scheduling and trauma patient assignments are influenced by seniority within the unit
- Facility is working to build a stronger teamwork culture within the ER and values candidates who can help lead this effort
- Holiday RTO may be considered but is not guaranteed
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by this health system within the past year, though PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
- First-time travelers may be considered depending on experience level
