Under the direction of the Caltrans Electrical Supervisor of the Office of ITS Engineering and Support, the incumbent is responsible for the electrical maintenance of the district’s Transportation Management System (TMS). The incumbent may be required to install, configure, test and troubleshoot systems and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment. The incumbent works independently at a journey level and engages in complex layout work involving the electrical and mechanical systems associated with process control networks, telecommunications systems, microwave communications systems, and video display systems connected to the Transportation Management Center (TMC) and Field Element Network (FEN).
The incumbent also prepares, constructs, and installs ITS field equipment as part of the district’s capital support program.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Electrician II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements- Drug screening must be passed prior to being hired.
- Background investigation must be cleared prior to being hired.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.

Eligible candidates include individuals currently in this classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, current LEAP/SROA candidates, and those with Surplus or Training and Development assignment eligibility.
