Hours:

Typically, Monday – Friday, 08:45 – 17:00 (may vary by department).

36 hours 15 minutes a week.

Duration: 3 years 9 months.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

• Working alongside and assisting experienced engineers
• Following Company Health & Safety procedures
• Liaising with the Laboratory, Design and Drawing Offices in day‑to‑day duties
• Involvement in design and redesign of products
• Providing technical support for manufacturing (New product introductions, First Offs & ensuring BOMs are correct)
• Dealing with product complaints and site rectification work, with site visits where necessary
• Liaising with suppliers on technical matters
• Carrying out quarterly reviews on prices of electronic components and assisting the Technical Manager/Technical Operations Supervisor in specifying electronic components
• Introducing new systems to refine day‑to‑day duties within different departments
• Suggesting improvements within the company and process improvement
• Assisting on large‑scale projects, e.g. introducing new machinery
• Aiding manufacturing with jigs and fixtures when required
• Helping with health and safety improvements, completing necessary COSHH sheets
• Aiding quality assurance

Engineering and manufacturing support technician (level
3)

• Follow health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.

Duration approximately 40‑45 months.

Year 1:
Between 22–39 weeks are spent at HWGTA Training Centre developing practical engineering skills, alongside one day per week in the classroom, completing the theoretical elements of the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
