Housekeeping Supervisor

The closing date is 10 March 2026

We are looking for a housekeeping supervisor to join our team working the following hours:

Thursday & Friday 13:00-21:00

You will be working alongside other housekeeping supervisors but you will also be working on your own.

Main duties of the job
  • Ensuring staff have enough stock in their cupboards to fulfil their daily roles.
  • Ensuring staff PDRs are completed and training is kept up to date.
  • Completing return to works when a staff member has been off sick.

REPORTS TO FACILITIES MANAGER

Job Purpose

To provide an efficient housekeeping service, ensuring that standards are maintained at all times. To provide a responsive service in relation to the needs of service users

Key Relationships

Matrons, Departmental Heads, Senior Nurses, Ward and Departmental staff, Infection Control, Estates and Supplies, patients and visitors.

Dimensions

Managing the day‑to‑day running of the Housekeeping department and direct supervision of 150 staff. No budgetary responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • To provide daily supervision of staff ensuring daily contact with all staff on duty.
  • To deal with, and rectify minor problems which arise on a daily basis.
  • To have an understanding of the governments guidelines on the National Standards of cleanliness.
  • To carry out monitoring in line with The National Standards of Cleanliness.
  • To take a pro‑active approach to cleaning, constantly striving to improve the quality of service provided.
  • To carry out staff appraisals.
  • To carry out staff induction.
  • To provide comprehensive training to all new members of staff.
  • To have an understanding of infection control and to ensure compliance within the Department.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To ensure that all staff are aware of Health and Safety at work Act (1974) and that departmental safety procedures are adhered to.
  • To liaise with staff within the hospital on day‑to‑day issues relating to the housekeeping service.
  • To deal with complaints in the first instance.
  • To raise with the Housekeeping and Linen Services Manager, any issues which may affect the quality of housekeeping service or linen service.
  • Key Activities
  • To organise and plan work rotas ensuring maximum efficiency of staff.
  • To accurately complete staff register and rota paperwork.
  • To allocate keys and ensure key logsheet is signed, and that returned keys are logged in.
  • To allocate supplies of cleaning chemicals and consumables.
  • To be responsive to telephone and bleep requests ensuring a prompt service at all times.
  • To authorise annual leave ensuring minimal disruption to the service.
  • To carry out staff return to work interviews following a period of sickness absence, and bring to the attention to the Assistant Housekeeping Services Manager any problems.
