Role Description This is a full-time, on-site CNC Turner role based at Optimal Manufacturing Ltd in Redditch and Alcester site. The CNC Turner will set, operate, and program CNC turning machines to produce precision components to drawing specifications and tight tolerances. Daily tasks include interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, setting up work holding, and performing first-off and in-process inspections using measuring equipment.

The role involves monitoring machine performance, adjusting offsets as needed, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and collaborating with engineers, programmers, and quality teams to meet production targets. The CNC Turner will also help identify process improvements, support continuous improvement activities, and follow all health, safety, and quality procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong CNC turning skills, including machine setting, operating, and basic programming or editing of CNC programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, and work instructions accurately.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) for quality inspection.
  • Experience working with a range of metals and alloys, such as tool steels, stainless steels, aluminium, and high-temperature materials.
  • Understanding of machining principles, cutting speeds and feeds, tooling selection, and safe machine operation.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain high standards of workmanship under production deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and capability to work cooperatively within a production and engineering team.
  • Previous experience in a precision manufacturing environment; background in aerospace, oil and gas, or similar sectors is an advantage.
  • Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in machining, engineering, or manufacturing; equivalent practical experience also considered.
