We currently have a vacancy in the Pre‑Operative Assessment Department as below:
- 30 hours per week at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
- Countywide working will also be required when necessary to cover leave.
- Flexible shift patterns Monday - Friday.

Main duties of the jobOur pre‑op assessments are made through an online system called Synopsis. The service provides assessment for a wide variety of surgical procedures across the county. You will be mentored and supported to learn the role. Ideally you will have pre‑operative assessment experience; however a sound knowledge of both medicine and surgery would be keenly considered.
We are working with many national changes happening and services being reconfigured. The service offers a range of different clinics to maximise learning potential and opportunity to gain new skills such as triage, venepuncture and ECG interpretation. You will work closely with the Nursing and Anaesthetic team and be supported to achieve your pre‑operative competencies.

Job responsibilitiesUsing your clinical experience and skills, you will work with your team as a named nurse to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.
Acting with compassion you will put patients at the centre of all you do.
You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers regarding their care and educate patients where there is a need.
You will communicate effectively with the Multi‑Disciplinary Team to ensure high quality patient care.
You will show commitment to sustaining and developing your clinical competence and professional awareness.
You will provide supervision, support and education to unqualified staff and students.
You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns.
You will rotate through Pre‑op Assessment Countywide which includes KTC, WRH and the Alex.
Role details
You will ensure the provision of accurate pre‑operative patient information and documentation via Synopsis. Conduct holistic clinical assessments of all patients awaiting surgery, making appropriate onward referrals in a timely fashion.
You will communicate effectively with patients, carers and members of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team.
