Job Title: Perpetual Inventory (PI) Controller
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
Department: Warehouse Operations
Reports To: Warehouse Operations Manager
Job PurposeThe Perpetual Inventory (PI) Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records throughout the warehouse by carrying out continuous stock verification, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring all inventory transactions are accurately recorded within the Warehouse Management System (WMS). The role plays a vital part in supporting operational efficiency, maintaining stock integrity, and ensuring high levels of customer service are achieved.
Working HoursThe standard working hours for this position are Tuesday to Saturday, from 12:00pm until 9:00pm. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to adapt to changing business requirements. This may occasionally involve starting earlier or finishing later in order to complete stock investigations, support operational priorities, or respond to customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out daily perpetual inventory counts in line with the warehouse cycle count programme, ensuring stock records remain accurate at all times.
- Investigate any discrepancies identified thoroughly, taking corrective actions promptly to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain inventory records accurately through effective use of WMS, ensuring all stock movements and transactions are correctly processed.
- Work closely with colleagues across Goods In, Picking, Packing, Dispatch, and Warehouse Operations to investigate inventory queries, resolve stock issues, and maintain a high level of inventory accuracy.
- Monitor inventory performance, identify trends in stock variances, and provide feedback and recommendations to management to improve warehouse processes.
- Assist with customer stock queries, produce inventory reports when required, and support periodic stock audits, including month‑end and year‑end inventory counts.
- Adopt a proactive approach to continuous improvement, ensuring warehouse procedures are followed consistently to minimise stock loss and operational errors while maintaining excellent housekeeping and Health & Safety standards.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by management that are appropriate to the position.
- Previous experience in a warehouse stock control, inventory, or perpetual inventory role and strong working knowledge of WMS.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, and capability to investigate stock discrepancies methodically and accurately.
- Good communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships across different warehouse departments.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to prioritise workload while working independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with in a logistics, distribution, or third‑party logistics (3PL) environment, knowledge of cycle counting processes, inventory control procedures, and stock reporting is advantageous.
- Excellent organisational skills, flexible approach to work, and ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
- Reliable team player who remains calm under pressure and is committed to delivering continuous improvements in warehouse performance and inventory accuracy.
The post holder is responsible for complying with all company Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times, reporting hazards promptly, and contributing to the maintenance of a safe and efficient warehouse environment.
