As part of our growth strategy, The Aurora Group are really pleased have recently opened a brand new SEND Secondary School in September 2025 in Chaldon, Surrey?for young people aged 11-16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. All of our students have access to a broad and exciting curriculum, allied to the national curriculum, personalised to meet their needs, interests and passions.

With a model of small classes, high levels of classroom support and a supernumerary multi-disciplinary intervention team we are able to give students "every opportunity to achieve"

We are looking for an inspirational teacher who is passionate about preparing young people for adulthood and helping them develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed for future success. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about Careers Education and Work skills, supporting students to explore pathways, develop employability skills and achieve positive outcomes beyond school.

As part of our ambitious and evolving provision, we welcome teachers who embrace new opportunities and enjoy developing their practice across different curriculum areas. Whilst Careers & Work skills will be the main focus of this role, there may be opportunities to contribute to other subjects and areas of learning over time. The purpose of the SEN Teacher with Careers & Work skills Focus is to deliver high quality teaching and learning for children and young people with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing needs, typically associated with autism. Some pupils may have multiple learning difficulties and may present with some challenging behaviours.

Key duties:

  • To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, with particular focus on our Careers & Work skills curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment.
  • To work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To maintain and use short, medium and long term plans in delivering the curriculum.
  • To set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for each individual.
  • To monitor, assess, review and report on the progress and work of students to parents, team members, senior staff, examination and funding bodies through reports and identified meetings as directed and as is required through school policies and procedures.
  • To develop lesson plans analysing and self-reflecting on the outcomes.
  • To contribute to the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEP and LAC reviews.
  • To provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
  • To maintain an overall awareness of current issues in the field of autism in order to be able to plan for effective teaching and learning.
  • To work in a non-confrontational way to ensure individual needs are met.
  • To appropriately manage challenging behaviours within the school policy and procedures.

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience in special school settings, particularly with pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Proven ability to deliver a differentiated curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
  • An understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks and an ability to integrate this into the curriculum
  • Strong knowledge of the national curriculum
  • Working understanding of ASC and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including complex presentations

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications in SEND
  • Experience in curriculum development for learners with SEND, especially those with autism
