Energy Markets Research Analyst

Job Type: full-time, permanent

Location:

Redhill, Surrey

Salary: £25,000 to £30,000 per annum depending on experience

About the Role

As an Energy Markets Research Analyst, you’ll work within our Markets, Trading & Risk function, supporting senior risk managers and analysts across UK and European power, gas, emissions, coal and sustainable fuels.

You’ll help deliver market intelligence, support client risk strategies, and build the tools that keep our portfolio decisions sharp. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility from day one.

What You’ll Be Doing

Market analysis - Support fundamental, statistical and regulatory analysis across UK & European energy markets.
Risk & exposure monitoring - Track client exposure, financial risk and portfolio movements.
Technical development - Build and enhance internal tools using Python, SQL and Power BI.
Daily reporting - Publish daily market movements and product activity summaries.
Trading & hedging support - Assist with hedging needs, trade capture and position validation.
Research & insight - Contribute to newsletters, publications and client briefings.
Team collaboration - Work closely with consultants, analysts and risk managers to deliver high-quality ERM services.
Who We’re Looking For

A self-starter with genuine enthusiasm for trading markets, risk management and strategy.
Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
Technical capability in Python, SQL, and Power BI.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Graduate or postgraduate in a financial, analytical or technical discipline.
Familiarity with European energy markets is a bonus — curiosity is essential.

Qualifications:

Graduate / postgraduate, preferably within a financial or related discipline. Previous experience from a financial institution, consultancy or utility is an advantage.

Skills, experience:

Some familiarity with the European energy industry and knowledge of the fundamental drivers of the energy markets.

Well-developed numerate ability
Strong analytical skills
Some Python or SQL experience
A high level of attention to detail
Excellent communication and networking skills
Fluent spoken and written English is a must, additional European languages a plus
