Definition of Classification:
Reporting to the Associate Provost for Faculty & Senior International Officer, this position oversees all aspects of undergraduate and graduate global education, currently decentralized across the College and Schools. Key responsibilities include sustaining a University-wide culture of best practices in international education; advocating for study away as a high-impact practice; expanding access and advancing diversity, equity and inclusivity in relation to global education;
cultivating and evaluating external program providers; advising students into program selection and managing the application process; risk management; managing processes related to exchange students; and building support structures to enhance the experience of international and exchange students. Among the University’s global education opportunities are exchanges (both with institutions within the United States and abroad), direct enrollment partnerships, third-party providers, and short-term, faculty-led travel courses.
and Responsibilities
- Lead the University’s cultivation and evaluation of exchange institutions, direct enrollment partners, and third-party providers.
Note:
The University has partnerships with six external providers: CET, CIEE, DIS, IES, SIT, SFS; several international exchange programs (e.g., Chinese University of Hong Kong, Waseda, Nanzan and Reitaku Universities (Japan), Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, University of East Anglia and University of Galway) and one domestic exchange program (Tuskegee University) all of which are managed by the Director. - Lead all processes related to the above programs, e.g., issuing and updating contracts, MOUs, exchange agreements.
- Expand opportunities for University-wide educational programs at the international campus in Salzburg, Austria in collaboration with the Associate Provost and Deans.
- Expand opportunities for study-away and international student support programs on the Los Angeles campus, in collaboration with the Associate Provost and Deans.
- Manage faculty travel courses by advising faculty on budget preparation, travel itineraries, risk management, and recruitment.
- Supervise the Office of Global Education staff, graduate interns, and student workers.
- Manage the finances and budgets for all University of Redlands study away programs.
- Evaluate budget model for the University’s study away programs and work toward centralization of those budgets within OGE together with the Associate Provost.
- Represent the Office of Global Education at information sessions, travel fairs, prospective student visit days, new student orientations, and professional meetings.
- Collaborate with University administrators and faculty on global education as a strategic priority for student success, cultural competency and campus diversity/inclusivity.
- Administer both internal and external grants and scholarships for undergraduate study abroad (Gilman, Fund for Education Abroad and Freeman Asia) and pursue new sources of funding.
- Represent global education in ongoing retention and student success efforts, together with the Associate Provost.
- Support first‑generation and BIPOC students in pursuing study‑away opportunities through initiatives such as the Study Away Ambassadors program.
- Collaborate with enrollment and student success teams in the Schools to expand and enhance DEIB efforts related to global education in those units.
- Plan, coordinate, and assess programs and events to foster international student belonging, development, and retention together with the Assistant Director of International Student & Scholar Success and collaborators across the institution to create additional engagement opportunities.
