The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Professional reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments and is responsible for designing policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulations on safety, health, and the environment. They also design programs to prevent disease or injury to workers and damage to the environment. The incumbent analyzes regulatory required compliance and technical issues, and communicates those analyses with clients, peers, and with regulatory agencies when needed.

and Responsibilities
  • Participates in achieving the goals of the safety organization.
  • Plans, implements and coordinates safety programs and procedures.
  • Keeps current with any changes in regulations and implements changes accordingly. Ensures manuals, policies and procedures are in place and clarifies intent to support adherence to regulations and company expectations.
  • Collaborates with other facility/site safety staff to support consistency and knowledge sharing across all sites as appropriate.
  • Supports and mentors the development of technical safety skills for employees and leaders in the facility.
  • Executes the safety vision and plan for the facility and mentors the staff in achieving that vision.
  • Conducts or coordinates employee training in areas of safety, regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Maintains training matrix for site specific required training.
  • Investigates incidents (near hit, injury) including:
    • Follows notification protocol internal to EC and EHS for each specific site.
    • Aids in initial care and follow up care with injured employees and case management.
    • Investigates incidents.
    • Ensures incident report has been completed by and distributed to the appropriate parties within established timelines.
  • Leads and documents appropriate risk/hazard assessments. Conducts corresponding follow-ups and implementation of corrective action items to support minimization and/or elimination of incidents that have the potential to cause harm to one of EHS's employees, contractors, or visitors.
  • Ergonomic Initiative Focus:
    Focuses on work that takes employees out of the neutral zone, creating body positioning issues, which may increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Upon award of a new project, collaborates with the project team in developing the Environmental Health and Safety plan (EHSP) for the project. Additionally, perform walks with supervision to become familiar with the upcoming scope of work and to identify potential issues (hazards, impacts) that need to be mitigated.
  • Effectively communicates the health and safety goals, objectives, performance expectations, and metrics to employees at each work site.
  • Consults with and provides support/guidance to employees regarding both personal medical and work-related injuries to identify opportunities for improved safety performance, risk reduction and cost reduction.
  • Performs and administers safety audits including inspection of safety facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Performs regular (weekly) audit recaps and distributes as directed by supervisor.
  • Oversees facility safety inventory including supplies, equipment and training materials.
  • Analyzes and utilizes data to set safety priorities and develop action plans.
  • Responds as intermediary in situations involving team member safety and site safety.
  • Participates in pre-task plan/job briefing reviews.
  • Represents EC to work with the GC/Client/Owner EHS professionals to provide guidance and council overall project safety.
  • Site specific EHS professionals will also follow the EHS Internal Roles of site EHS guidelines and work with the project teams to detail any specific needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors (BA/BS) degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related subject from an accredited school; or
  • Associates (AA/AS) degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related subject from an accredited school; and at least two or more years related experience and/or training in professional safety in the field; or
  • Successful completion of an accredited EHS Apprentice program.
