Position: Traveling Field Mechanic
Location: Works out of Prineville, Oregon office with travel to sites nationwide
Union Pay Rates: $45.00 – $47.00/hour
R-2 Contractors has been a trusted leader in civil & underground construction since 2009, specializing in power infrastructure projects nationwide. This role will keep our heavy equipment and vehicles in peak condition, ensuring safety and efficiency across various utility and renewable energy projects.
Responsibilities- Complete tasks assigned by the Fleet Manager or Onsite Superintendent in a timely manner.
- Keep work areas clean and free of garbage, old parts, and clutter.
- Responsible for cleaning and organizing the service truck.
- Maintain a tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks (up to 1 ½”).
- Keep personal and service truck tools clean and organized.
- Track hours/miles on machines while performing jobs.
- Maintain accurate records of daily work and complete work order paperwork every day.
- Ensure proper recordkeeping of all tasks.
- Perform DOT inspections on trucks and trailers.
- Stay updated with new technology related to equipment.
- Conduct welding and fabrication as needed.
- Use proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing tasks such as grinding, cutting, sanding, welding, or using compressed air.
- Adhere to company policies and SOPs.
- Minimum 1-year experience with heavy equipment and heavy trucks.
- Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record.
- Ability to weld and perform fabrication work.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to diagnose air brake systems, hydraulics, electrical, and fuel systems.
- Willingness and ability to travel to worksites as needed.
- Availability to work 40–50 hours per week as required.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Union Mechanic Wages – $45–$47 per hour
