X designs, builds, tests, and operates satellites, gateways, and related software to provide global connectivity. We are seeking best-in-class engineers to maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the globe.
This is a high-profile, cross-functional role that supports development and production flow of satellites and gateways. You will work closely with internal engineering and manufacturing teams as well as suppliers to implement effective supply chain strategies to meet production goals. With in-house integration, supplier development engineers can see assemblies come to life daily.
Responsibilities- Own continuity of supply for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and components on the Starlink program
- Collaborate with design, R&D, commercial supply chain, hardware reliability, and production teams to manage suppliers and deliver world-class products
- Support procurement to strategically source parts by reviewing supplier capabilities and quality systems
- Identify, audit, and onboard new suppliers
- Develop and implement supplier technical requirements and quality flow downs to meet manufacturing needs
- Implement and monitor production part approval process (PPAP) with selected suppliers to enable rate production
- Ensure qualification and reliability activities at suppliers meet requirements
- Develop and approve process controls for critical characteristics
- Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risk and defects
- Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and guide improvement plans
- Provide feedback to suppliers on manufacturing methods to reduce costs, shorten cycles, and increase yields
- Function as a liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues
- Lead supplier root cause analyses and corrective actions for quality gaps
- Lead projects and present reports to internal teams and suppliers
- Own supplier SPC, yield improvement activities, tool/process qualification, and performance in quality, efficiency, and cost
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
- Experience with PCBs, laminates, electrochemical processes, or microelectronics fabrication
- Advanced degree in engineering, business, or supply chain (preferred)
- Knowledge of supplier quality processes (PPAP, APQP, FAIR, RCCA, lean methods) and quality systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP)
- Knowledge of statistical techniques (SPC, DOE, Six Sigma)
- Disciplined problem solving (8D) and electronics manufacturing experience, preferably with PCBs for high-speed or RF applications
- Ability to influence across organizational lines and work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to present to suppliers, team members, and management
- Willingness to work long hours and weekends when needed to meet deadlines
- Up to 25-50% travel (domestic and international)
- Pay range:
- Supplier Development Engineer/Level I: $95,000 - $115,000 per year
- Supplier Development Engineer/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000 per year
- Your actual level and salary determined by job-related knowledge, education, and experience
- Base salary is part of a total rewards package including potential stock or bonuses, and benefits such as medical, vision, dental, 401(k), disability, life insurance, parental leave, and paid time off
