Overview

Supplier Industrialization Engineer, PCB (Starlink) – Redmond, WA

Space

X is building Starlink, the world’s largest satellite constellation, to provide fast, reliable internet globally. This is a cross-functional, high-profile role that supports development and production flow of satellites and gateways, working with internal engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to implement effective supply chain strategies and bring assemblies to life in-house.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own continuity of supply for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and components on the Starlink program
  • Collaborate with design, R&D, commercial supply chain, hardware reliability, and production teams to manage suppliers and deliver world-class products
  • Support procurement to strategically source parts by reviewing supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Identify, audit, and onboard new suppliers
  • Develop and implement supplier technical requirements and quality flow downs to meet hardware manufacturing needs
  • Implement and monitor production part approval process (PPAP) with selected suppliers to enable rate production
  • Ensure qualification and reliability activities at suppliers are in line with requirements
  • Develop and approve process controls to manage critical characteristics
  • Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risk and defects
  • Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and drive supplier improvement plans
  • Provide feedback to suppliers on manufacturing methods to reduce costs, shorten cycle times, and increase yields
  • Act as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and provide technical support
  • Lead supplier root cause failure analysis and corrective actions for quality gaps, escapes, or containments
  • Lead projects and present reports to internal teams, management, and suppliers
  • Serve as internal owner of supplier SPC, yield improvement activities, tool/process qualification, and performance in terms of quality, efficiency, and cost

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with PCBs, laminates, electrochemical processes, and/or microelectronics fabrication (including school projects, clubs, or internships)
  • Advanced degree in engineering, business, or supply chain
  • Working knowledge of supplier quality processes (PPAP, APQP, FAIR, RCCA, lean methods) and quality systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100/NADCAP)
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques (SPC, DOE, Six Sigma)
  • Disciplined problem-solving approach (8D)
  • Electronics manufacturing experience, preferably PCBs for high-speed/RF
  • Ability to influence across organizational lines and work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to present to suppliers, teams, and management

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends to meet deadlines
  • Travel up to 25-50% (domestic and international)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Supplier Development Engineer/Level I: $95,000 – $115,000 per year;
Level II: $110,000 – $130,000 per year. Base salary is one part of total rewards, which may include stock, bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package.
