In this role you will help build and operate the world’s most advanced broadband internet system – Starlink. You will work on all parts of the system, from thousands of satellites to consumer receivers and the software that ties it together.
Responsibilities- Own hardware from conceptual design through high‑volume production and ground station operation
- Design the factory and processes to enable rapid, reliable, low‑cost manufacturing of state‑of‑the‑art vacuum technology
- Develop, characterize, and produce new materials
- Rapidly iterate on designs, analysis, and test to inform high‑level systems trades and steer overall product direction
- Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system‑level optimization
- Establish an efficient product lifecycle starting in the supply chain all the way through final integration, balancing cost, complexity, and quality; work closely with partner teams to design and realize an efficient in‑house production line
- Perform environmental and performance testing on hardware to validate analysis and demonstrate compliance to design criteria
- Demonstrate extreme ownership of product outcomes at every stage of development and production
- Work with partner teams to develop novel manufacturing procedures
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM discipline
- 1+ years of professional experience (including internships) with mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing
- Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis
- 2+ years of hands‑on project experience with complex mechanical systems, preferably as a team lead
- Demonstrated full‑cycle ownership of a hardware project from concept to implementation
- Exhibit a diverse technical knowledge of materials and their processing, with experience in high‑temperature processing
- Understanding of fundamental principles in materials science and solid mechanics
- Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing and scaling to high volume as part of a cross‑functional team
- Self‑motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
Additional Requirements:
Willing to work extended hours and some weekends if needed.
Pay ranges vary by level:
- Level I: $95,000 – $115,000 per year
- Level II: $110,000 – $130,000 per year
Base salary is just one part of the total rewards package. Employees in Washington State accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law.
Company shuttles are offered to employees for round‑trip travel from select Seattle locations to the Space
X Redmond office Monday through Friday.
