As the Manufacturing Quality Manager for a Line Replaceable unit at Amazon Leo, you will be directly responsible for the production process development, introduction, improvement, and maintenance of a key module on our next generation spacecraft. You’ll be the leading technical voice for a team of quality engineers working on the product, solving challenging technical problems associated with delivering an ultra-high-performing optical, electrical, and mechatronic module to space.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Taking ownership of quality management system processes for satellite production.
  • Leading quality engineers, inspectors, and technicians in deployment of proactive QA measures alongside production demands.
  • Reporting metrics, coaching team members, and guiding QMS enhancements and improvements.
  • Coaching on Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools.
  • Driving yield improvement.
  • Leading daily leadership calls to provide updates for high severity issues.
  • Managing Production QE, Quality Inspector team.
  • Leading containment activity and root cause investigation for high severity to product and business.
  • Leading root‑cause corrective actions and participating in Material Review Board (MRB) activities.
  • Managing block stock inventory and leading site disposition of non‑conformance found at incoming quality and warehouse block stock inventory.
  • Providing coaching and leading process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, MSAs, SPC and other APQP artifacts to support continued high‑quality production.
  • Supporting operations team directly as a high solving power engineer, capable of bringing multiple diverging technical perspectives together in high‑pressure escalation moments such as quality containment.
  • Working within an AS9100 (or similar) certified quality system.
  • Conducting rigorous Continuous Improvement activities to prevent recurrence of non‑conformances during assembly.
  • Implementing the Leo's Quality System through process development and launch mechanisms.

A day in the life

You will serve as a key lynchpin connecting design/development, factory operations, quality engineering, program management, and more as you drive the manufacturing processes we use from initial production introduction to full‑rate production. You will leverage your expertise in Quality System and design to partner with development on the design of future iterations of the system and sub‑assembly and our associated production test systems & tooling.

Basic

Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in large product assembly quality engineering, manufacturing, or operations throughout a production lifecycle development.
  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years experience with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Dashboard, KPI Tracking.
  • 8+ years experience in complex manufacturing process of mechanical and electrical assembly process PCBs, PCBA.
  • 8+ years experience in large product assembly quality engineering, manufacturing, or operations throughout a production lifecycle development.
  • 5+ years experience in Managerial / Leadership roles for large or medium size organizations.
  • MS in Mechanical, Electrical.
