Primary Function:

The Manufacturing Process Engineer III develops and optimizes complex processes, tooling, and methods for prototyping and low‑volume R&D manufacturing of electro‑mechanical systems. This senior‑level role bridges product design and early manufacturing, ensuring that prototypes are built efficiently, safely, and with exceptional quality. You will collaborate closely with design engineers, machinists, assembly technicians, and clients to bring innovative concepts to life — from first article through small‑batch builds.

This role requires deep technical expertise, creativity, and a hands‑on approach to solving complex build and integration challenges.

Essential Job Functions – Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement advanced processes and assembly methods for prototype and low‑volume electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Create process flows, work instructions, and fixture/tooling specifications that enable efficient prototype builds and testing.
  • Provide expert Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) input during early product development.
  • Lead process development and validation activities for new technologies and materials in an R&D setting.
  • Architect assembly and test tooling, including defining requirements, reviewing designs, and overseeing implementation.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to iterate quickly on process concepts and troubleshoot technical issues in real time.
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste, improve build repeatability, and increase efficiency — tailored to a prototype environment.
  • Serve as the technical lead for complex build programs, ensuring processes meet quality, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in process design, documentation, and build best practices.
  • Interface directly with customers and internal project teams to communicate technical solutions and recommendations. Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience:

(Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering;
    Master’s preferred
  • 5+ years of related Process Engineering experience
  • Proven ability to integrate mechanical and electrical systems in small‑batch or one‑off builds.
  • Strong command of DFM/DFA principles and practical experience influencing design decisions.
  • Skilled in fixture/tooling development, process documentation, and build optimization.
  • Proficient with CAD software and process simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, process validation, and root cause analysis methods.
  • Experienced in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, adapted for flexible, non‑production workflows.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including direct client engagement and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and ability to mentor others in a fast‑paced R&D setting.
  • Proficient in MS Office and GSuite; familiarity with Jira is a plus.
