Network Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES

Kforce is looking for a Local Network Engineer for Project Kuiper in Redmond, WA. The candidate will be working with the Kuiper Networking Software Team.

The Terrestrial Networking Team (TNT) has been supporting EGSE, Flatsat, Carwash, and PIT with limited engineering capacity, leading to an ad‑hoc approach to demand management through on‑call engagement, Sev2 tickets, and leadership escalations. This approach has hampered TNT’s ability to progress on critical initiatives such as security certifications, automating network configurations, and managing network resource access, delaying plans beyond Q1 due to continuous support requests.

To address this, the TNT team will be hiring four contractors to take over support for the major test venues, with two dedicated to EGSE (the primary resource consumer) and the others divided among Flatsat, PIT, and Carwash. This move aims to streamline operations by addressing the division of responsibilities within test venues to prevent ongoing escalations and refocusing efforts on readiness tasks.

• 2 years of major internet routing protocols experience through network layers 1‑4
• 2 years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
• 1 years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
• TCP/IP networking, IP routing, core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF, BGP, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM etc.
• Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel‑Lucent, Arista, Brocade HP switches, Extreme, Citrix, F5, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.
• Linux/Unix environment experience
• Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF, BGP, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, etc.
• Experience with one or more of the following router, server load balancer, and firewall vendor platforms:
  Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel‑Lucent, Arista, Brocade, Extreme, Citrix, F5, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.
• Experience Python and providing valuable insights
• Has led improvements in existing processes and identified opportunities to enhance or develop new processes
• Experience working in a highly available network and highly operationally aware
• Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures
• Experience work in the Lab
• Experience with IPv6/IPv4 Design and implementations

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
