This position involves application for heathers, vines, ground covers, perennials, and ornamental grasses. Responsibilities include preparing soil and growth media, cultivating, and participating in horticultural activities across acres, nurseries, and controlled environments such as greenhouses or sheds. Employees must have transportation to the job site. The work involves field growth, harvest, culture, and care of nursery products.

Typical exposures: dust, dirt, heat, cold, fumes, noise, vibration, water. Physical demands: lifting, pulling, reaching, manipulating, carrying, pushing, shoveling, bending, twisting, climbing, squatting.

• Hauls and spreads topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials to condition land; digs, rakes, and screens soil; fills cold frames and hot beds; fills growing trays with water; plants, sprays, weeds, and waters plants, shrubs, and trees.
• Sows grass seed, plants plugs of sod, cuts, rolls, and stacks sod.
• Traps and poisons pests such as moles, gophers, mice, etc.; plants shrubs and plants in containers.
• Ties, bunches, wraps, and packs flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees to fill orders.
• Moves containerized shrubs and trees using wheelbarrow; digs up shrubs and trees and wraps roots with burlap.
• May dip rose cuttings into disinfectant vat before storage.
• May fold and staple corrugated forms to make boxes used for packing horticultural products.
• May be designated as grass-farm laborer, greenhouse laborer, nursery laborer, rose-farm laborer, etc.
• Care for trees in nursery; plant, pot, water (hose or bucket), fill flats; care for plants during growing process; load/unload sod & growing materials; transport trees & shrubs up to 70 pounds; assist in planting & harvesting ornamental trees; weeding, cleaning, pruning; perform other related work such as repairing farm buildings, moving irrigation equipment, gardening, and field maintenance.

Lifting requirement: 70 lbs. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Extensive pushing or pulling. Extensive sitting or walking. Frequent stooping or bending. Repetitive movements.
